Overview of The Magazine Industry

The top ten selling magazines are all either TV guides, health or women’s weekly magazines. These are all magazines aimed at women (most of which would be middle aged). This information tells middle aged women are the people most likely to by a magazine, this is why we find so many similar women’s magazines.
The first music magazine come 56th place in the top selling magazines, this is empire magazine, a magazine about film and music. This information tells us that it’s hard to get large sales from music magazines.
Based on committed pop music fans, Q magazine was voted the best music magazine. It’s based in the UK but still manages to attract American readers of the magazine too. Inside Q magazine you will find plenty of information on reviews of albums and music-related movies, DVDs, and books.
The most successful paid-for magazine in 2014 was ‘Forever Sports’ which debuted with a mostly paid-for monthly circulation of 62,277. One of the least successful was ‘Reader's Digest’ which sales dropped 38% to only 133,496 sales each month.
The News trade single copy year-on-year change of magazines has decreased for the majority of magazines. The reason for this is because a lot of people now read magazines and keep up to date with current affairs on line so there is no need to buy a physical copy of a magazine. 

The number of retail magazine copies sold in 2015 is 151 million and the retail sale value is £282 million. 210 was the number of new regular frequency magazine titles released in 2014.
